Rainy season has started in Florida and that reminded me to go through my saddlebag to remove winter items and check my rain gear.
Burn Holes
Good thing I did as I forgot about getting my rain pants to close to an exhaust pipe and burning a hole in them.
I went to Harleys website
https://www.harley-davidson.com/shop/FXRG-collection
That's where I found the new FXRG group of rain gear, it is Harley’s premium gear and stated to be three times more waterproof and breathable than the industry standards. It has been designed for touring and commuting riders, who have a schedule to keep and cannot let the weather keep them from it.
There have been times I rode through heavy rain storms while traveling to events around the country. You know the kind, where cars pull off the road. But there is no place for you to take cover so you just have to keep going. Rain so severe that some of my past rain gear did leave something to be desired even though they worked well in less severe conditions.
Sealed Zipper
As soon as I saw this rain gear, I felt that was not going to be an issue on future rides. The material is a mixture of 79% Nylon and 21% Polyurethane. It was layered with fully sealed seams and extra panels.
The FXRG Pants
Stirrup
Opening the zippered legs were a help in getting them on quickly and easily. The stirrups held everything in place while the zipper closed up the leg and the flap covering it with Velcro was closed, followed by the ankle strap for even more closure. I had opted to wear deck shoes for the photos as opposed to getting my boots wet.
Extra Piece Behind Zipper
Hook and Snap Pants Closer
Waist Tightening Velcro Closer
With the legs secured I pulled the pants up and used the hook and snap to secure them and then used the side adjusters at the waist to make them stay up. There are also special tabs for those who want to use suspenders.
I should also bring attention to the leather inserts in the legs to prevent burning holes in them if the rider is not paying attention and gets their leg too close to the exhaust.
Anti Slip Seat
They have even added anti-slip material to the seat to prevent slipping in wet riding conditions.
Inside Pocket
Tight Fitting Wrist Connector
Bungee Closure
The FXRG Jacket
Has many adjustment features like the two-way front zipper, hand warmer pockets and even a zippered interior one. Adjustable Cuffs, Bungee Cord Adjusters, Neck Cinch, Airprene Collar and Throat Guard and hood that fits comfortably under the helmet to prevent water from running down your neck. It is also removable.
Add some venting for rider control in warmer weather, reinforced elbows and shoulders with Scotchlite reflective material and you have a winner.
For photo purposes I had helpers. When I told Jody, I needed someone to spray a hose on me to see how well the rain gear worked she got this evil look on her face and started to laugh. I did make her earn the fun she was going to have. She helped with water-tight bungee adjusters.
Dry After Removing Rain Gear
A few days after the photo shoot I did get to use the rain gear, while riding for about an hour in the rain. It was not as heavy as the garden hose, but considering I was also moving at highway speed it was another good test.
The RAIN GEAR PASSED TESTING!
I am not going to look for one of those storms that have cars pulling over. But I am confident that this rain gear will do its job when I'm trapped in bad weather.
